The Power of Communication

Expression through writing or speaking can be a meaningful
way of interacting with the world around us. Sometimes our thoughts can swirl
in our minds so quickly that it can be a challenge to slow down and tell others
what we want to say. Language of all types is a path to connection and often meaning.
Description, instruction, entertainment, marketing and education can all be
conveyed through the spoken and written word.
Being a native speaker of English has its good points and
bad. Often I feel very fortunate to be able to speak and write in ways that are
clearly understood by those around me. Because I have studied languages
different from my own, I have felt the frustration and worry which have
accompanied my deep desire to say what I mean. I have also had challenges in
learning and understanding certain visual concepts which have led me to an often-unique
style of learning. I have great compassion for those who struggle with English.
Whether the obstacle is impatience, boredom, frustration or confusion, I can
respect the perseverance it takes to continue working with this language.
Although I enjoy writing, I admit I have my favorite types
and not everything is great fun for me. I like taking my skills and supporting
individuals and businesses in expressing what they mean in powerful, eye catching
and meaningful ways. Effective communication in English involves a learned set
of skills. It is my life’s work to support literacy in all its many forms. My
grandfather was a self-educated man who prided himself on his language
abilities. I take great pride in honoring his legacy and want to support those
who want to further empower themselves with gifts of communication.
All forms of business, research, technical and even creative
writing share skills. What you as the individual say, how you say it, what you
use to support the information you share and the styles in which you express
yourself are yours and yours alone. Many of us share software, hardware and
ideas but the unique combination you use to combine them is what makes your
content a large part of who you are.
It would be my pleasure to support you on your journey.
Whether you are new to English, working with disabilities, a native speaker
using English in new ways or part of a small business eager to show what you
can bring to this world, I can help you develop the power of communication.
